Falling Walls

At Falling Walls Foundation, as a not-for-profit organisation based in Berlin, we have this image in mind: The crumbling concrete blocks of the Berlin Wall that mark dawn a new era of freedom and break barriers both physical and imaginary on the night of 9 November 1989. We channel this iconic image into our formats and our community, and bring together those who set out to tear down the next walls in science and society. Our community is built on outstanding experiences of gathering, learning and the connection to a higher purpose by tackling the greatest challenges of this planet. Still after ten years of our existence since our founding in 2009, we noticed there is one big wall that we have not addressed yet: the great wall of gender inequality in science.

With this in mind, we started our initiative Female Science Talents in 2020 and established a global platform that promotes inclusive excellence. With Female Science Talents we encourage alumnae of Falling Walls and other talented young women from science to push for gender equality in leadership. We support women in science with to achieve their goals and to evolve their career ambitions.

For example, the Female Science Talents workshops encourage self-empowerment through transformative conversation and peer-engagement. The intensive peer mentoring at Female Science Talents is of a reciprocal nature and connects talented women to high-caliber female role models to exchange perspectives and inspire each other.

It is especially dear to our heart, with the Female Science Talents Programme, to support diversity and uniqueness of each talent. Based on a two-speed approach, this Programme pursues the broad-based promotion of female talents, as well as the targeted promotion of exceptional female talents.

Our Talents Track offers a monthly series of 2 or 3 hour online upskill trainings for female science talents, designed to empower women to develop their own leadership strategies. The series brings the talents into contact with top class trainers, high-profile role models, and inspirational peers – some of whom are just one step ahead, to model a possible next steppingstone.

Our Intensive Track is an exclusive support programme, including mentoring and 7 days online workshops with high-profile mentors and outstanding female leader guests, designed to propel participants towards achieving a personal breakthrough in their career. We identify 20 exceptional talents from the Talents Track each year to participate. By putting them onstage to speak at live international conferences and during the Falling Walls Science Summit in November each year, we promote international visibility and impact of exceptional female talents. The applications for the 2023 Intensive Track Programme are now open (deadline 15th November 2022)! Apply now!
